Introduction

‘ KNOW THYSELF ‘

Ordinary human beings, are content to live their lives on the surface and superficiality characterises all their actions and thoughts.Thus they have neither the time to think of the world within nor the inclination to realise what lies within them i.e. untapped,undreamt of resources of wisdom,peace,joy,spiritual strength,creativity and healing power. Great spiritual thinkers declare that when we touch this true and still centre within us all,we will experience true freedom-freedom from the fears,desires,tensions,insecurities and misgivings that haunt us in our everyday lives.

In this state we will realise our own divinity and the fact that we are not the pathetic,helpless individuals that we imagine ourselves to be but the eternal,infinite spirit of pure,true everlasting bliss- Sat-chit-ananda.The first step on this path of self-discovery is the Socratic injunction: ‘Know thyself’

A. GUIDED MEDITATION

The three words of the mantra,sat-chit-ananda- meaning truth,consciousness,bliss are words of pure poetry,words which touch our hearts.Truth can only be revealed when consciousness has reached its highest peak.Meditation is the process whereby consciousness becomes available,in which truth can be discovered.And the ultimate peak of meditation is bliss.

The practice of meditation does not ask us to become a Buddhist or a meditator or a spiritual person.It invites us to fulfill the capacity we each have as humans to awaken ourselves.The skill of becoming more mindful,more compassionate and more present and awake is something we may learn sitting on a meditation mat,but this capacity for awareness helps in computer programmin,playing cricket or tennis or walking by the beach and listening to life arund us all.

Mindfulness meditation does not focus on holding a specific state of mind but trains us to be present in each moment withawareness,with greater sense of openness of heart,and with clearer seeing.It can help us even in our difficulties by showing us the possibility of being a little less attached to the inevitable ups and downs in our life,less afraid of the changes in both pleasures and pains.Meditative awareness reduces tension and heals the body.It quiets the mind and gently opens the heart.While helping us us to fulfill our deepest desires,through meditation,we discover our inner freedom and happiness and come to a sense of oneness with life.The need to become a spiritiual warrior can never be overstressed because it is only a spiritual warrior who takes everything as a challenge while an ordinary person takes every thing as a blessing or a curse.

Through GUIDED MEDITATION you will learn how to concentrate mindfully in a balanced way –and to observe your breath.It is then possible to learn the patterns of body and mind that cause suffering, and discover release from that suffering.
